the web revival is a movement where people are rejecting what the internet has become by returning to a hand-coded web. some people call the current web "Web 3.0", the current web that is monopolized by social media platforms profiting from your time & attention.
returning to an "older internet" can also mean returning to a hand-crafted web by regaining control over how you engage with digital media and how you exist on the internet. for e.g., instagram restricts your ability to express yourself to a single page, made of one grid of photos/videos. but by coding your own website, there are so many more possibilities, so much creative freedom!
i also think that handcoding html and css from scratch is beautiful and fun. there's something so primitive and artistic and lovely about it. and anyone can learn! everyone on myspace did it!
